  • What kind of results can I expect from Ayurveda?
As we like to say in Ayurveda ~ It depends. As I explained in previous questions, the wisdom of Ayurveda teaches us how to listen to our body, understand its needs and answer to its call for help. Though, the longer we live without knowing this, the deeper the imbalances run in our body and the harder it gets to reverse. So depending on what you are experiencing, we may not be able to bring you back to balance, but Ayurveda can definitely help support and lessen the flare-ups, bringing relief but also possibly strength to handle the condition you have in a more effective way. Another important aspect to get results is to reflect on your own willingness to be open, learn another point of view and change a behavior that may not be serving you. We will only be able to go as far as you are willing to let us and it will most certainly require a bit of trial and error while discovering your body and its reactions. You may not be ready to work with me. But my invitation today is to think about your Body. What you know of it. What you ask of it. Of Yourself. What you are afraid of. The signs you ignore. How much you rely on friends, family members, doctors, medical body to have answers for you? To fix you right there and then but keep coming back for the same issues? How confused you may be with everything else that is showing up everywhere in your Body? Ayurveda gives you the solution. It reminds you of the tools you already have. It helps you simplify. Understand. Get in tune with your body once again and see the warning signs way before the disease hits you and puts you down. And not in 5, 10, 15 years. In a few months’ time. Depending on what it is that developed in your Body, it won’t fix you. It won’t save you. It may but there is more chances that it won’t. But it will open your mind. It will support you in living the best of Life at this moment. With more ease, fluidity, energy, love, resilience,… Then, the choice is yours. What would you like to do with your Life?

  • What does Ayurveda have to do with Transformational Life Coaching?
As mentioned in the previous questions, Ayurveda is the Science of Life. It doesn’t just inform us on how to “repair” our physical body. It describes and explains the impact of our daily lifestyle practices and food choices on our organs, tissues and emotions. What affects us physically, affects us emotionally and the other way around. In addition to describing what to do and eat to restore balance, Ayurveda also explains what already exists in our body. Its view is that the day we were born, we chose or were attributed a specific constitution that will define our physical shape, tendencies and personality traits. Every step that we took that led us away from this mix of energies and characteristics in our body, brings imbalance. And as much as we can “fix” it physically with lifestyle practices, food and herbs or spices, knowing what makes us Us helps us understand what we feel, what we have been fighting against all our Life and thus bring acceptance, love and growth. Leading us to embody fully who we are, making strengths out of what could have been seen as weaknesses, and bringing our Life Purpose into the World. As I said, I have been introduced to Ayurveda when I read “Discover Your Dharma – A Vedic Guide to Finding Your Purpose” by Sahara Rose. “Dharma” is another Sanskrit word meaning “your unique purpose in the World”. Sometimes we can feel that we are alone, not heard or seen and a useless spare part of this world. Like our body, Nature and Life can seem complex because we lack the tools to understand them. Inwardly on a physical level or outwardly on a mental or spiritual level. The ancient texts remind us that once we take a minute to stop, listen, observe and seek guidance to connect the dots, we can finally remember that we are important, we have a mission that only us can bring out into this World and that, in fact, what we unlock is the exact medicine that the World needs. The Dharma Coaching Institute was created by Sahara Rose herself as well as two other mentors and co-founders, Dr. Neeta Bhushan and Ajit Nawalkha. I got trained in their very first program by them three personally and a wonderful team of coaches from all around the world, in order to bring this wisdom to you personally and help you become the best version of Yourself.
  • How often will we meet?
One follow-up, about a month after a first consultation, would be a minimum to make sure that you are getting the best of Ayurveda’s wisdom. Depending on what you are experiencing, we may have to meet every week or two at first, to make sure that our plan of action suits you well and for you to get as much support as you need. Usually, my clients experience improvements after the first appointment, but it wouldn’t be uncommon for it to take several sessions before noticing any change. As mentioned, when we start working together, we are learning how your body works and coming up with unique suggestions for your constitution. The Ayurvedic treatment approach is one of sustainability. There is no "quick fix". This doesn't mean you won't see significant improvements early on, just that it is a gradual process to ensure steady progress until your body fully heals itself. "Quick-fixes" are just treating symptoms, not addressing the root cause, in which case, the symptoms will continue to reappear. My goal is to help you end the cycle and discover a New state of Health and Well-Being.
  • Does Ayurveda Work?
Ayurveda appeared from nowhere in my Life and really resonated with me. I was doubtful but every question I had was answered in the most profound and simplistic way. And here I am to attest that it works! With the simplest practices that Ayurveda taught me, I was able to restore balance, wake-up energized in the morning and feel that I was on my way to healing and reaching a State I may never have known before. I want to bring that simplistic but so profound and potent wisdom to You. To help you get to know your body, hear its whispering voice and have the tools to answer to its newfound needs. Bringing deep and long lasting transformations.
  • Does Ayurveda require me to eat a very restrictive diet?
I have experienced first-hand the difficulty of restrictive diets and the diversity of advice that we can find around us, in books or online. I lost my appetite. I couldn’t even enjoy what I was eating. I was left empty, tired, worried, unsure and deficient. The goal of Ayurveda is to improve our diet flexibility, not reduce it. As we understand our body better, Ayurveda improves our ability to tolerate a diverse array of foods, so our diet will become less and less restrictive over time.
  • What is Ayurveda?
I often refer to Ayurveda as the Science of Life, as it is my own interpretation of this Sanskrit word, really combining two words: “ayuh” meaning “life” or “longevity” and “veda” meaning “science” or “sacred knowledge”. It is a Science based on the five elements that make up everything around and inside of us (Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth) and 10 couples of opposite qualities also called Gunas like Hot/Cold, Oily/Dry, or Heavy/Light. These are used to describe everything that happens around and inside of us and make up the three different types of energy or Doshas existing in Ayurveda. Historically, this wisdom has been slowly lost, leading us to lose touch with our body’s needs and bring in imbalance. Once we identify what’s happening and showing up, we use these characteristics, lifestyle practices, food and herbs or spices to regain balance. We get a simple and practical user manual to this beautiful and complex machine that is our body, living in harmony with Nature, and bringing back health, energy, strength and peace to our Life. To me “understanding” is key for change which is why I decided to dive deeper into Ayurveda and bring that knowledge to you, with tools and deep and long lasting transformations.

  • What if I don’t know anything about Ayurveda, or don’t want to focus on this practice?
My entire practice is based on my discoveries on this Science - though you are not required to know anything about it. It will be a pleasure to teach you what I know and is relevant to your situation, but you and your experiences are my priority and Ayurveda is just a lens I see the world as.
  • What recommendations do we get from an Ayurvedic consultation?
Ayurveda is a Science based mostly on Diet and Lifestyle practices. As much as we are studying what in your current Life may not be serving you, we are similarly going to think about what can serve you better in the future. The main goal of my recommendations is to: - help you set up a daily routine that answers to your needs and Ayurvedic constitution allowing you to wake up refreshed, use your energy in a better way, reconnecting you to what makes you feel most alive and getting rid of the exhaustion you feel daily - adjust your diet progressively to one that supports you best while increasing your digestive strength, transforming your elimination, supporting you in absorbing your nutrients and supporting your liver - clarify what you have learned so far about Ayurveda to add it to your toolbox and not overwhelm you - equip you with sustainable tools to understand yourself better and support you in your day to day physical and mental well-being To start with, my recommendations will mainly be about Diet and Lifestyle practices as in when to go to bed, when to wake up, when to exercise and what type of exercise, when to eat, what to eat, how to eat,… to best answer your unique Ayurvedic Constitution’s needs.
  • Why Ayurveda?
I was raised in a pretty active and aware family. None of us used to be very sick or not for long and we used to go with more gentle medicine than the usual pharmaceuticals. Though, I did notice that I was storing deep emotions in my body which will then overflow by waves as physical discomfort. A cyst here, back pain there, joint pain, tendinitis, receding gums, or eczema and sometimes food intolerance. It was not until I read “Discover Your Dharma – A Vedic Guide to Finding Your Purpose” by Sahara Rose that everything clicked. I followed with reading Sahara’s other book “Idiot’s Guide to Ayurveda” and getting her recipe book “Eat Feel Fresh” as well as Dr. Vasant Lad “The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies”. Ayurveda is such a simple thing that when I started doing just a few things, I noticed that I could “control” my eczema in a few days while usually it would take me months to get rid of. For me, the understanding of the causes of my discomfort and the reasoning behind my personality were enough, but the everyday practice made real, noticeable changes happen to my body and that’s why I stuck with it and dove deeper, so I decided to be trained as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor at Joyful Belly, School of Ayurveda.
  • What does an Ayurvedic consultation look like?
In Ayurveda, we don’t treat the Symptoms, we treat the Root Cause. The goal of our consultation(s) is to investigate and dig as deep as we can to get to know your body and the reason why it is reacting the way it is, and discover the root of most of the disorders you are experiencing today. Following Ayurveda’s wisdom, by addressing the root, we can bring you back to balance, health, energy, ease, flow and well-being. In order for me to have a good picture of what’s going on in your body, ahead of our first consultation, you will be asked to fill out an Intake Form where we will define my scope of practice, what I can and cannot do for you but also your goals, what you are experiencing and how I can best support you on your Path. You will also be asked to take a few pictures of yourself (full body, face, tongue, eyes, hands) in order for me to “see” you even though I may not see you in person. During our consultation(s), online or in-person, we will go over the documents you would have sent over to me and discuss. I will give you insights on Ayurveda’s perspective of what’s happening in your body and we will figure out the best plan of action for you to see improvements, as well as what you are willing and ready to do to get to see some results. A few days after our consultation, you will get a written report recapitulating what we would have discussed and confirming our plan of action. Usually a consultation is about 60 to 90 minutes long and follow-ups are possibly shorter in time but follow the same framework than a first consultation.
  • I already have a good diet, what can Ayurveda teach me?
If you are experiencing any discomfort in your body, there is a big chance that your diet or at least a few foods on your diet are the cause of these discomforts. In Ayurveda, almost all imbalances start in the digestive tract from the foods we are eating or the way we are eating them. If your diet suits you, then I may not have any tips for you. But if you are interested in working with me, to get rid of a condition, then we will discuss what you are eating, drinking and the ways you are having those, and decide if something needs changing.
  • What is your Life Purpose, Marianne?
Problem-solve to help the world. My “engineering mind” is one of my gifts. I love solving problems, using method and structure, to makes sense of what could be seen or felt as chaos. And thanks to my family’s interest in orienteering, I was exposed from a very young age to the beauty of our Planet. Forests, wild life, rivers, mountains, oceans, flowers. Which was one reason I chose engineering. I used to design heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing systems for apartment buildings mostly. Not only did I get to design my own place as many times as there were apartments in the building, but I also had a chance to have my clients choose what was best for our planet, with renewable energies, low energy consumption equipment, energy-efficient building envelopes,… Unfortunately it was not enough and I witnessed the power of profit and unawareness. Which is what led me to go on a trip and discover “what should I do.” In 2017, I became a WWOOFer, helping out farmers in exchange of room and board, for two years, all across Canada. I then discovered a beautiful co-op/grocery store, nested in the heart of the Kootenays, where I started as a dishwasher, went on as a Grocery Clerk and a Grocery Inventory Specialist. All along though, I was refining my training on human beings and deepening my understanding of my very own self in this World. By having discovered and studied Ayurveda, having deepened and crystalized my training at the Dharma Coaching Institute, I now have the tools to help myself and everyone that Life will put on my Path on a physical, mental and spiritual level. Which in my heart, resonates as helping our beautiful Planet. Healthy, happy, aware and fulfilled people have no choice but open their eyes and their heart to the World around Them and Shine their Light while protecting the Beauty of our Planet.
  • How long will it take for me to become who I want to become?
This is such a great question that I have asked myself many times! Should I invest in this, or that? Will this person get me to be a better person quicker and better than this one? Should I just keep on reading books? Meditate? Talk to friends over and over about the things on my mind? Should I just be patient? If Life does exist, She will show me the way. For a very long time I knew I had to face “something” but didn’t know what. I felt pro-active as I was getting individual or group therapy sessions to dig and force myself to see “something”. Ending up crying, desperate, hopeless even experiencing a panic attack. I would always recover and because I couldn’t bear not to be “good”, I would force myself through the next thing. There is no right or wrong way. No right or wrong person to help you. If I hadn’t done all of that, I wouldn’t be here today. What I know is that the past five years of on/off therapy would probably have been better used in Life Coaching, if I had known that it existed. Life will only unlock what you are ready to take on next. Not more, not less. If my studies have pushed me to do something it is to look deeper inside of myself and discover my super-power. When connected to it, I am reminded that we are all born with a Purpose in Life and our only mission is to remember it and bring it out into the World. Be that unique person that we all are. There is no extra. We all have a Purpose and the World needs us to live It. Nobody knows how long it will take, what it is that you need to understand and when it will start, happen or even finish. But what I can tell you is that I have been there, experienced it myself and it would be a pleasure to support you through your steps for you to discover and live your Life Purpose.
  • Do you have other titles?
From a Life Coaching perspective, what I do can also be called: - Purpose Coaching - Dharma Coaching - Spiritual Life Coaching - Soul Purpose Coaching - Intuitive Life Coaching I am also certified as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor.
  • What if I am not spiritual?
No worries my dear. Spirituality is different for everybody. I have always been in awe when listening to people’s experiences with meditation, yoga and spirituality - everything that led them to self-liberation and embodying concepts such as joy, happiness, forgiveness, being in the present moment, living a peaceful life, without stress, fear, anger or worry. I was so curious to even witness that it existed, as nobody around me was even close to incarnating it in a way that felt true to me. For a long time, I was day-dreaming of being like “them” one day, somewhat skeptical and maybe even faking it, practicing yoga, meditating twice a day, reading books and books on these subjects, with very little noticeable results. I did not allow myself to share these habits with anybody as I was afraid of being judged. Though, I still believed in the Beauty of Life, hanging on by a thread to my hopes for a better future. Then one day, it all clicked. That’s when I discovered Ayurveda. But really, I discovered myself, my voice. And I want the same for you. At your own pace, with what feels comfortable for you. We will explore the opportunities showing up in your Life. I may get a bit poetic sometimes but it’s fine if it doesn’t resonate with you, we will adjust as we go. We can also explore what is Spirituality to you and if it is something you are interested in, we can expand further.

  • What is the difference between Life Coaching and Therapy?
As a person having reached out for therapy multiple times in the past, I have wondered myself. And I have looked into it for you. What came up is that: - Therapy is more based on diving deep into past traumas to uncover the root cause of our discomfort and try rewiring from there. - Life coaching, on the other hand, is based on acknowledging these traumas but not diving deep into them, more building onto that past, onto that what makes you You and redesigning your true future from there, peeling away the layers brought up to your surface and coming back to your essence. Coming to the understanding that your past is not You. It is a gold mine of knowledge that made you who you are today. You can dig into all of it, as a toolbox, to pick what you need today and be stronger, more rooted, secure, knowledgeable, unstoppable, tweaking your next step to not repeat your past, becoming the engineer of your future.
